Under the mulch line.
Frisco sits on shrink-swell blackland clay. It decides whether a bed drains or drowns, whether an edge holds its line through a wet spring, whether sod knits in July. So the first entry on any log we open is the grade, the part nobody photographs.
Everything after that, beds, plantings, lawn, is finish work laid on a base that was set right. Done once, in the right order, is the whole reason we can say done right the first time and mean it.
